This series is from a recent shoot with model Amy Jones. Lindsay Ambrosio (www.makeupmadame.com) was on hand to provide the makeup along with Tim Morehead, my studio partner, shooting behind the scenes video with my backup camera, the Canon EOS 7D.

We went from a series of beauty shots with a unique style of eye makeup Lindsay applied, to a “Mad Max” theme Lindsay came up with. A successful photo-shoot is truly a team effort. Tim also suggested the off center side cropping of Amy’s two sides and the resulting dual image above.

The beauty shots are a four light setup, the back light providing the background is a Speedotron in a large soft box. To either side are Alien Bees B800’s in strip boxes aimed at a tri-disk reflector system that has one disk in the middle (pointing up under the models chin) and two side reflectors on arms (reflecting the light from the strip boxes to the model’s cheeks). Above camera left, pointing down, is an Alien Bees B1600 firing through a gridded Beauty Dish.

GM: Welcome to GLAMMODELZ Magazine Chelsea. How did you first begin modeling and what sort of experience have you gained?

Chelsea:I was lucky enough to grace the cover of the second edition of American Beauty Denver this month. The experience and exposure opened doors for more wonderful opportunities including being honored to grace the pages of GLAMMODELZ!

GM: Being a relative new-comer were you surprised to be considered by two magazines so early on? Do you have aspirations to make a career of modeling?

Chelsea: Yes, I was pleasantly surprised to be considered for even one, so I feel extremely fortunate to be able to participate in two incredible magazines. I am determined to continue to progress and flourish in my modeling career.

GM: As our featured “Valentine’s Day Model” can you tell us any interesting stories related to Valentine’s Day?

Chelsea: Honestly, I am usually single on Valentine’s Day. However, one of the most special and memorable V-day’s was a few years back with my boyfriend at the time. He surprised me by bringing me to a jewelry store where we picked out something together. We then spent the night reminiscing about good memories!

GM: In your session with Jeff DeHaven of DeHaven Digital Photography, he mentioned that you were a natural- that you were able to pose creatively and change position with every frame. How did you learn this and do you have any advice to offer new models?

Chelsea: With no proper training, I practice in front of the mirror quite a bit and get new ideas from anything I see. My best advice to anyone posing for any camera is if it feels awkward, 9 times out of 10, it will look awkward.

GM: Tell us a little about yourself. What do you like to do for recreation? What interests you- your favorite books, personal influences, music, or ideas?

Chelsea: I am a laid back girl living life by the golden rule. Treat others how you wish to be treated and it will come back to you. I love scary movies and life changing books. My favorite book, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” inspired my first tattoo (on my hip.) I also enjoy hiking in our beautiful Rocky Mountains and swimming whenever I get the chance.

GM: Do you have any fashion advice for models—favorite places to buy clothing, shoes, makeup, etc…?

Chelsea: Be comfortable being yourself! And if you want good products try Sephora, Guess, The Buckle, and Bakers.

GM: What are your favorite features of yourself?

Chelsea: My dark brown eyes!

Welcome to GLAMMODELZ Magazine, Siera.

My first step in entering modeling was when I use to work at Harley Davidson. I would look at all the different models on the motorcycles and decided I wanted to be in a magazine. That same year I landed in the motorcycle magazine Just Ride. I am also a promo model for Harley trade shows and as a liquor representative. The one model that inspires me the most is Marisa Miller. She the biggest supermodel in the world and has a very sexy/classy appeal

What style of modeling do you enjoy most?

The modeling style I enjoy the most is swimwear and lingerie. With swimwear modeling you get to strut your stuff in the sun as well as in the water. Although there are times when it may rain and lightening is a factor, it is still a great experience. Lingerie modeling is my second favorite because I get to show a sexy side by using the clothing, my body, and my eye expressions.

What are your goals and ambitions in this industry, where would you like to take your modeling career?

I am currently going to casting calls for big agencies in California this November so hopefully I get into Elite agency. I want to become a professional in the industry and land as far on top as possible.

Do you have any advice for aspiring models, tips or tricks, places to find the best deals for clothing—advice for hair and makeup?

The best advice I have for models now is to do photo shoot with photographers that are well known and have great talent. Try not to get caught up in so many contests. Seek out reputable agencies, it is the best choice. With clothing, try to find things that may be unique to the photo and that goes with the photographer’s style. With hair and makeup, look into the stylists before you choose. Being unhappy with how you look will ruin a portfolio photo instantly.

Tell us a little about yourself, your hobbies, favorite pastimes and ambitions outside of the modeling industry.

Some of my favorite things to do outside of modeling are riding dirt bikes, being on the back of a motorcycle, and boating. I love machines that go fast and give me a thrill. I grew up racing dirt bikes on ice so it is part of my life.

Do you have any favorite publications that you refer to for fashion advice, posing or style?

The one thing I have based my photo shoots on are the Victoria secret catalogs. It is a really classy way to show people who you are while remaining tasteful. It is also good to look at W Magazine for high fashion shoots because it shows a wide range of the fashion industry.

Lastly, how was your experience with our contributing photographer, Jeff DeHaven?

Jeff is a great photographer; he always keeps in touch with the models and is very good at getting edits back in a timely manner. He is fun to work with and always has a great assistant with him to help with the photo shoots.
